I need my family van inspected and I was hoping that it will pass. The windshield wipers are broken and the side-sliding door is broken, among other things, but the engine runs fine and I don't think it pollutes much.
So do they check mainly for how much pollution it emits, cause if they looks at the cosmetics then my van will fail.
What a dilemna! We can't afford another vehicle! So, I hope I'll hear what I want to hear, but tell me what I need to hear if you please.

Default Regarding Safety and Emissions Inspection

"Vehicles 35 years old, or older, are exempt from the North Carolina vehicle safety inspection. The cost of a passed safety inspection is $13.60. The vehicle inspection can be performed at any of the 7,500 licensed inspection stations throughout the state. Most service stations, automobile dealerships and vehicle repair garages are licensed inspection stations."

This is all I saw at the website. I'll check again. Thanks for that link however.

You won't pass the safety inspection with broken wipers. The broken door won't be a problem as long as it is closed. Emissions aren't measured at the tailpipe anymore, as long as the "check engine" light isn't on, then you'll pass the emissions check.

I wouldn't consider wipers to be "cosmetic". I hope you're not driving anywhere near me when it's raining!

I recently had my vehicle inspected and the inspection charged me $10.00 for checking the tint on my windows. The tent passed the test (not too dark) but I was still charged the $10.00. Is this a state law? Never had to pay it before.

If I'm not mistaken any tint that's not factory tint yields a $10.00 fee.
