Info On Hickory NC (Catawba: rentals, home, school district)

Help, I have been offered a relocation package with my current employer to Hickory, NC and I know very little about the area. We would want to rent a house, no idea what that will cost...need to ensure my 6yo son's education, how does the school system rank? My better half is on the fence, not really wanting to leave our home in Albuquerque, NM but this is an amazing opportunity, someone help me with some selling points for her!

Hickory is where four counties meet (Alexander, Caldwell, Burke, Catawba). Each of those counties has a school district. In addition, Hickory has its own district. Of the five districts, Hickory has the lowest test scores. The other four are above the state average.
NC School Report Cards

You can rent something decent for under $1000. If you want to spend more, you can get something very nice for under $1500. I looked at one website that lists rentals that have been put on the MLS, but it looks like people in this area don't list them that way. Craigslist will have more. (Of course, not everything on Craigslist is real.)

Near the top right of the forum page where this thread is listed, is a search function. Type in Hickory and you'll get pages of information. You could refine your search a little by typing in Hickory schools. Good luck!
