Gov. Perdue has signed Executive Order 93, restoring Extended Benefits
(EB) to those who are eligible. The ESC is working quickly to respond to
the order. ESC anticipates paying a majority of those eligible claimants
by next week. Others who qualify, may require additional assistance. The
ESC will have extended hours for our call center next week and
additional information will be provided later today on our website.
I disagree. A lot of people here and on other sites are taking a simplic approach to looking at this, probably because of their party affiliation, however I see it more complex.
By removing the need for the UI to be in the budget it takes some of the preasure off the 5 dems helping to override a veto to back off that promiss, which gives her more power. UI was one of the major reasons for them jumping ships, now it will be a lot harder for them.
As for why now. To be honest she may have been able to do it all along, but it is possible she did not know she could. She would not want to jump to do something without researching if it was allowed or not.
When I say backfire, I mean come election time. There was needless suffering going on for thousands.
"The U.S. Department of Labor has reviewed the executive order and agreed to begin releasing the money," Perdue Spokeswoman Chrissy Pearson said Friday.
I thank all of you for your support and I thank the governor for what she has done, doesn't matter to me what her reasons were.I just want to pay my bills and get any job or jobs I can.

Read my last part again.. If you dont know you have the authority to do something, do you just jump on it, or wait and check. Which would be worst for her, to knowingly try to take extra powers, or to wait and see if she has the powers.

I understood your point, but it does not take 7 weeks to research it. It should have been a top priority. I am sure it could have been done in a week or two tops.

of her powers the day before a veto proof budget
was to be passed?
