You think there is any chance the coal ash pits can be cleaned up as well as SC now that the coal ash governor is gone?
I would hope that some sort of compromise could be met with Congressional Republicans and Governor Cooper. The Republican controlled General Assembly might work with him on some things though for the most part they will completely override every bill he vetoes.
Their relationship was terrible. She vetoed many of the bills sent to her by the GA, and the GA overrode every one of them. I suspect things will be similar with Cooper. I'm sure that played a large role in her decision to not run for re-election.
She inherited the great Recession and was blamed for it. And, she was a weak governor (and probably the victim of no small amount of sexism in the "good old boys' club, just conjecture). I believe some kind of scandal was about to surface on her? She is partly to blame for McCrory of her own right, of course, running in the primary and then dropping out with no time to find a better-known candidate than namby-pamby Walter Dalton.
We frankly would be better off if McCrory had won in 2008 and then HE would have gotten blamed for the Recession, and the mid-term of 2010 wouldn't have been nearly so Red, plus he would have gotten knocked out in 2012, and we'd be a very different state now.

No one likes cooper
No one knows anything about cooper
Where are you getting this? Roy Cooper has been a household name in NC for a long time. He is an NC native and was a Morehead Scholar at UNC. He's been Atty General since 2001 and was in the legislature before that since 1986. That's 30 years of NC politics, generally with very good approvals.
Speak for yourself that "nobody likes him" or "nobody knows anything about him".

Plus, he was the voice of reason and on the right side of history regarding Amendment 1. How much tax payer $$$ did the Republicans waste on that one?
This is the first step in healing the wounds of division. HB2 should be history very soon. Progressive NC has returned!!
"Should" be in what way? As in, now that Cooper is elected it "will" be history soon? I just don't see that happening. The last thing Berger and Moore want to do is start out the Cooper administration by handing him a victory like that.
