Great read!

Editorial: Legislative meddling in local affairs threatens state's economic engines :: WRAL.com

This hits the nail on the head.

Quote:
The needless meddling in local affairs needs to stop. Legislators should explore ways to give local government more autonomy and home rule, particularly if they sincerely believe that the government closest to the people is the best.
The article missed the part where the state prevented Wilson from expanding their city-owned Greenlight fiber service after the cable companies had a hissy fit at the thought of rural areas getting great service for a lower price.

But it's understandable they forgot. They had a long list.

The same principle would also apply, more so, to the Federal government meddling in state affairs. Read the tenth amendment to the US Constitution. Powers are explicitly reserved for the states, not the local governments.

Typical antics of a state government who is married to corporate wealth. NC cannot clean up the Duke Energy coal ash whereas SC has already forced Duke to do it.

Beat me to it

States actually have sovereign rights outlined by the Constitution, while local government and their "laws" exist entirely at the discretion of the state. States can and do create, merge or dissolve entire counties and cities

Doesn't mean State control is always GOOD government.

In HB2's case for example, the STATE enacted a law the feds determined was unconstitutional that has now penalized a bunch of municipalities economically. The State sometimes does more harm than good with their control.

IMO, as someone who has worked with Raleigh for awhile now...it is completely dysfunctional. Way too much overhead. Way too many inefficiencies. Many state workers have no business being in the positions they are in. Same for political appointees. Goes for both parties. Time to give locals more control.

So the logical response is to then burn the whole house down, huh?

And you know that Charlotte did not make it illegal to separate bathrooms by gender.

I dunno, ask Charlotte why they refuse a compromise to repeal both. Seems like they're counting on a bonfire for November.

Ordinance 7056 says it's unlawful to deny any person use of any facilities, including showers, locker rooms, restrooms and lodging, based on sex or gender expression.

How else should one interpret that?

They're probably counting on McCrory getting voted out of office. I bet you'd see some sort of compromise gaining steam after the election.

Just as it reads. It most certainly does not render single-sex bathroom facilities as illegal.
