I am relocating to the Ft. Bragg area and am trying to find the best family area. I have five children ages ten and younger. My main focus is quality schools and then activities for the children. How is Moore County for children versus Fayetteville?

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Have you considered Harnett County? There are nice areas of Fayetteville with good schools as well. Search City Data FAYETTEVILLE. How far do you want to commute? Some folks live in Fuquay-Varina, Angier, and Sanford area and commute to the base.

Hi, I myself am looking for the same thing...I live in the New England area, up north, but my fiance is in the Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg, and he wants me and my sons to move there with him. He has a house in Cameron, NC, about a 1/2 hr. commute from the base, and I'm very nervous about coming down there, especially since I have my sons who are both special needs, with ADHD and Aspergers...and good schools are my main concern for them. I'd also appreciate any suggestions, since I have no friends or family down there to ask or depend on.

Any help is very much appreciated. : )

That must be the Harnett County side of Cameron near the NC 27 / 24 intersection. Does he have neighbors who are stationed at Ft Bragg nearby? Check HArnett County schools and see what programs they have. The biggest change will be the distance you drive for big retail stores. There is a new Food Lion opening up on Buffalo Lake Road and there are some other stores in the strip as well.

Cumberland County (not just Fayetteville) has great parks and recreation programs. Plus Fort Bragg has the same. I have son with Autism and we have several friends that do too. We have been pretty happy with the support from the county schools. Like any place Cumberland county has good and bad school districts.

I've read umpteen times in our local paper that soldiers with children with Aspergers/Autism ASK to be stationed at Ft. Bragg because of services in the Cumberland County School System.

I would recommend looking in the stedman/eastover/vander area, its in Cumberland county, we live out that way and my husband works on post, it takes him 20 minutes to get to work, its in the country part of town, very peaceful. I don't think i would like living in the city.
As far as schools and resources, sorry, i can't help you there, but there was another poster (not sure if on this forum) that said Cumberland county schools were amazing when it came to special needs.
Good luck
