And how exactly did you get stuck with them at a wedding? Was there no one else to talk to?

Chad is probably ok for a while. After a while I get tired of people like Chad. He's probably the guy who never has an opposing opinion and everyone thinks he's a great guy because he never disagrees. Chad has what he calls 'manners'. Chad may also be the guy who will stab you in the back because he actually dislikes you and his great self-inflicted kindness was to tolerate you. There is a time and a place for Chad, but he isn't a real friend.

However, in real life, regarding those who reveal little, let's just say I was taught early on to be skeptical of 2 things: people with a forelock; and more pertinent here, "quiet people" or introverts that I encountered in everyday life. The latter turned out to be very good advice. All too often these "quiet" people have had ulterior motives, just like I was warned. One such person destroyed a very profitable business venture and we all paid dearly.

Also, never lay a hat on a bed (they told me that too, but that's for another discussion).
Well, one thing I was taught early on is to avoid prejudiced people. You know, the sort who will ascribe bad behavior to all members of a group because of what one person in that group did. Replace "quiet" with "black" and you'll see what I mean.

We were taught that, like everything else, not all "prejudiced" people were to be ignored. You have to use your head in these things. It's like anything else - just observe, and you decide.

I've come to despise anything that compartmentalizes a group of anyone or anything into one label ("LGBT" is a classic). It's, in a way, the equivalent of letting someone else do your thinking. Bad policy.
