You should review the definition of "presume" because you did it all over the place. The only nerve you struck was the one that controls my eyeroll. I told you about my personal smart phone use. I even answered the question.
It's just such a worn-out rant.
Sitting around judging others for stuff you really know nothing about is just as bad as whatever you're projecting onto them.
Ooookay - you got that off your chest (I presume you're a blast at parties). Now, can we move along with the subject at hand?
...you just don't like the direction it's going...
Well, okay... Since you know exactly what I'm thinking, what I mean, what I like and don't like, and you obviously have some bizarre agenda, I relinquish this thread to you and salute you for successfully hijacking it.

Have fun with it .
You made a point. I disagreed. It's how the internet works sometimes.
Because the whole "bickering" thing is such a turn-off for all those who have to endure it to get through the thread. Not to mention the fact that the mods will delete the entire pseudo-discourse anyway.
We don't have TV at our house. We found it to be boring after decades of having it there, nobody really paying much attention to it. Sometimes I'd watch a ball game, but prefer to listen on the radio now. Neither my wife nor I have smart phones - we have flip phones. No tablets, and just one laptop, which stays at home.
My problems with all this are three:
1) It's a distraction. We are being distracted from important events and ideas that we should pay attention to.
2) Advertising - it's everywhere. It was one reason we chucked the TV. Now it follows us all over the net.
3) Tired of staring into screens. I want to see real life, with my own eyes.
Socially, it doesn't seem to change much of anything for me. People still talk to me in person. I do feel that people should be MUCH more careful what they post on Facebook and such, but that's their problem.
I love my phone. I had to ride the train for 5 years and the first three I had no choice but to sit and stare out the window while putting up with all the racket of people yacking loudly on their personal phone calls, vulgar drunks, noisebleed from cheap headphones playing ghastly music and crying children. There was so much noise I couldn't even concentrate to read. I couldn't afford an mp3 system and I had worn out my old cd player and dumped all the cd's.
Once I got my new phone I could shut it all out and listen to my music while reading the news or other sites. My blood pressure has gone down, I have fewer headaches and I arrive at work in a more positive frame of mind.
If I'm with a friend I talk with the friend, but we still might both turn to the phone to show each other pictures, news, schedules, scores and highlights, messages, etc. They really are the greatest tool to come out in a long time.
If my preference to shut out strangers and enjoy my own space threatens you, don't worry about it. I wouldn't talk to you anyway. I don't talk to anyone.
Usually, I am annoyed by cell phone usage, but when I see 80% of everyone using their smart phone on the subway, I'm becoming more and more understanding. Some people are doing work correspondance, some people are reading e-books, some people are listening to podcasts, reading the news, etc. It's not like everyone is always just mindlessly texting and posting facebook updates. Besides, they're trapped on a train for like 30 minutes, what else is there to do?
On the street and in social situations though, people on their phones is really obnoxious.
