I enjoy having a few drinks amongst friends, but I'm starting to really hate the vibe that it seems most bars around here go for. It seems like places are either dead, 99% people 35+, or have a really douchey frathouse atmosphere where you can barely hear yourself think, let alone talk to anyone. What happened? Are there no more cool neighborhood joints were regular guys can come in, drink up and let off some steam? Have they been swallowed up by lame chain sports bars? And if you're into the singles scene, anywhere left where a guy and a girl can meet and actually talk to each other without shouting or grinding on one another all sloppy, but that won't charge you 8-10 bucks a drink?
Now old are you. The old bars can't exist as they did because they always had sidelines in gambling or some vice. Now days plenty of pub type bars offering casual food or restaurannt bars. Those type your talking about where always pretty seedy really.
A bar and grill I go to is great, I go there for the great food, the atmosphere is nice and the staff friendly, also I mostly go there because of the handsome bartender
The culture changes, over the years. So do the bars, I suppose. Still, the location matters. I lived in Manhattan, NYC during my mid 20s. I had the time of my life bar hopping. After that I moved to Southern California and things were a bit different. I had to adjust to a more relaxed atmosphere.
Any fans of Always Sunny in this thread? Today I randomly remembered the episode from last season, where the gang checks out the "award-winning" bar, and I think that episode brilliantly captures how corny and fake bars today are.
Born and raised in DC (Dupont Circle). There's a reason it's derided as "The World's Most Self Important City." Icky place, icky people = icky bars. Come to Providence -- we know how to raise hell and have a great time!
In my small experience with bars - Hip-hop bars usually suck. I like rock bars however but there are so few of them in my area. I might like country bars as well.
So maybe this is why, I cannot vouch for the rest of the US?

Bars have always remained the same. They've never been places where you meet quality people. You have matured, been there, and done that. I haven't been to a bar or club in over 4 years. I know I'm not missing a damn thing.
