You should be afraid of them. They are frightening creatures and if given half a chance they
will indeed chew you up and spit you out.

Good lord. I hope your boss is not a woman. I can't imagine refusing to speak to a person, especially a superior, because of their gender. You will not get very far in your career I predict.

Beware of people who do not understand sarcasm. Most everyone else is fine.

I was probably very tired or just starting to get sick so my mind was not at the recognizing the sarcasm mode.......my apologies for not reading it as it was intended. It may have been right when my hydroxyzine started kicking in as well, sometimes that stuff makes me quite loopy.

Is it that you fear women in your office, or ALL women? What happens outside of work in a more casual setting? If you're not comfortable speaking to women in general, work is not the place to practice! Ask a women for help and you shall receive, ask a question that is company or job related then be really thankful. Keep chocolate on your desk, or cookies. That will get them talking to you FIRST! If you have any close female friends or family, ask them what they think you can improve on. Good luck!

I some what understand what your saying. Women have a way of being offended by pretty much anything and running to HR with even the slightest idea that you said something 'strange' around them. It could have happen weeks ago but the 'affects' of the encounter just would not let her feel comfortable at work anymore and she could no longer work in an environment at where she feels threaten. Your best bet is to leave them alone honestly. I would even be careful on head nods as a way of acknowledge their presence, who knows they may interrupt that as some kind of sexual gester and she no longer feels safe at work any more.

Question: Has that actually happened to you before, or someone you know?

I mentioned a coworker who got in trouble for what was probably a simple and polite compliment regarding physical appearance, who I knew.
I also had a friend who fought in Iraq. He was a good person...just utterly oblivious to tact and subtlety, possibly because of the fighting for survival for years, or the survival of others. He worked on a college newspaper. I was also an acquaintance of the woman who got him fired. According to her, he spent most of his time taking pictures of the female employees rather than doing the photography work he was assigned to do, so she said, "He goes, or I go."

I figure both sexes have their share of stupid people, who are stupid beyond what should be condoned by society. I have trouble believing they're any greater percentage than a minority though.
