OK. I saw all of the other posts on Newburgh, NY. It clearly isn't the nicest of cities. There was even a couple of articles lately in the NYT on the problems with drugs and crime in the city. That is why I am a bit curious about Newburgh. People have told me that the Northeast and Southeast areas of the city are disasterous. Fine. However, even dumpy cities like Paterson and Newark, NJ have their nicer areas that are at least reasonably safe. What I want to know is how do the different neighborhoods or sections of Newburgh compare in terms of crime and public safety compared to others. I believe that there are some safer areas. What about downtown, the waterfront, northwest, southwest??? If there are some half-way decent areas of Newburgh, I would not mind taking a stop to see the historical architecture while on my way to Albany. But I want to know EXACTLY where to go and where not to go. Being very pale-skinned I would definetly stand out in the rougher parts of the city, hence, I would not like to get out of my car in such areas. I just want to be prepared before even taking a brief look at the city. Thank you.

all the historical areas are in really bad neighborhoods, the waterfront is just a few bars its not a neighborhood. the area north of south st west of 9W isnt too bad but theres nothing there worth checking out.

If they would just clean out the city out, it would be an amazing place to live.
