Question for Italians

Born Irish but had nothing but Italian friends growing up, and they were mostly 100% with either their parents or grandparents fresh off the boat. Having said that I, in all of my times spending Sundays with them at the traditional after church dinner never once heard it called gravy. Its always been sauce

that's what I said!!! In no authentic Italian recipe will you see "gravy" outside of a family one, perhaps! It just doesn't translate that way.
