Here is an old article about Black and Mexican migrant workers: Fewer Blacks Migrate to Northern Harvests - NYTimes.com

As mentioned in the article, many have roots in Florida, particularly places like Sanford and Belle Glade, as well as other communities near those two places. Some Black migrant workers come from the Caribbean as well.

BTW-Sweden is a town west of Rochester, around the village of Brockport.

More: Scholar Athlete of the Week: Brendan Kilpatrick (Rome Free Academy is the second biggest HS in the Utica-Rome metro)

Scholar Athlete of the Week: Bonke Rugira (Fowler High is on Syracuse's West Side and is known for getting a lot of students with a refugee/immigrant background. It may be the most diverse HS in Upstate NY, but gets quite a few students from lower income neighborhoods and has struggled academically due to these circumstances)

Scholar Athlete of the Week: Michael Harris (Green Tech Charter High in Albany at about 93% Black and all male, has the highest percentage for any Upstate NY high school)

Scholar Athlete: Lynda Brundige | wivb.com (Hutchinson Central Technical High aka Hutch Tech is a Buffalo City magnet HS that consistently has above average graduation rates for Black students and in general(usually mid 80's-low 90's%)

Scholar Athlete: Zipporah Barrett | wivb.com (Wilson is a small town in Niagara County)

So, Upstate NY's Blackest high school had a graduation rate that was 8 percentage points higher than the state graduation rate. Green Tech is all male and had 344 students within this grade 9-12 school, by the way. Green Tech High - Charter School in Albany, NY
