hi scrubjaydana,
i have thought about new paltz. although i'm a bit hesitant because i don't want to be surrounded by college students. and it's a bit more north than i want to be. but i'm not closed to off to anything at this point. i love beacon, but the rents are so high! i've lived in several major cities, and in many states, but it still shocks me how expensive the hudson valley has become, for a renter. it's a shame that poughkeepsie is so sketchy because it seems most of the apartments i like are there; big, hardwood floors, in a house and not a complex, etc... oh well, the search continues...
thanks so much for your feedback; i really appreciate it. :-)
Liking the great and frank advice on this post, albeit an older one. We've just arrived in Napanoch NY but husband is working in Kingston NY and we need to find an affordable rental (with our three year old) within around 45 Minsk drive ideally but really want to find the right place. A friend suggested Poughkipsie but it sounds a little too city and scary for me. Looking for a "friendly town" feeling but on a tight rental budget. Plus one car and driving license - neither are mine lol. Middletwon has also been suggested - hoping to head over that way soon. Any further tips on look here/avoid that. New Paltz was also suggested? We can't even get a feel for Kingston itself. All VERY gratefully received - thanks for reading.
