I'm about to move to Astoria, and am considering taking a job in Jersey City (near the Paulus Hook terminal). MapQuest tells me it's only about a 10-mile distance. But I can only assume to drive it, during rush hour, would just be 10 miles of pure hell in both directions. It seems that to get there using public transportation, you'd have to the take the subway to Herald Square, then take the PATH to Pavonia, change to the WTC train, and get off at Exchange Place.
Just curious -- does anybody know of any other options for getting from Astoria to Jersey City?
No, that's the easiest of many horrible options, which include taking the W down to lower manhattan and taking the WTC PATH or ferry to Exchange Place (ferry is an expensive way to commute). Why are you moving to Astoria? Is it too late to reconsider?
My girlfriend and I are living on Long Island now, and we're looking to move in about a month. She works in Rockville Centre (LI), and I'm in the process of looking for a job in IT. It seems that most of those jobs are in Manhattan, so Astoria seemed like a reasonable compromise. But if I'm offered the position in JC, and decide I wanted to take it, as you point out, the commute would be a drag. I'm not sure whether there are any better options, though -- it seems that for her to commute from Brooklyn would be pretty miserable, and living in NJ is out of the question for her.
Thanks for the reply!
