I will be interning in the city this summer for approximately 10-weeks. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on affordable housing during this period for interns. The job is located in Midtown.

Although its ways away, I want to plan early since this will be my second time in the city and I do not really know much if anything on where to live and how to budget properly. Thank you for all your help!

NYU has a program. Its kind of a rip-off, depending on what's important to you. From what I understand, from word of mouth, it is $900/month to share a 2BR apartment with 3 other people. Good location, though.

I was also going to suggest the NYU dorms. The biggest pros are their great downtown Manhattan locations and the chance to meet a ton of other interns across many industries (good for networking and having a social life, too).

If you are a female, there are still several women's dormitories for young professional women sprinkled around Manhattan (mostly Midtown area) that allow short-term leases. Biggest pro is safety and location; biggest con is the STRICT curfew- 11pm or midnight, can't remember.

After that, it's searching sublets on Craig's List and the NYTimes real estate ads, but those aren't going to be posted until late Spring.

Also, check with your college career center. Are there other recent grads working in Manhattan? See if someone has an extra bedroom or a well-timed roomate moving out.

It's going to be about $800-1500 per month for a share in Manhattan, depending on size and location. Brooklyn and Queens are less ($600-1000 for a share), but a longer commute from Midtown.
