Are you looking to get a hotel or rent a place on a weekly basis? That'll help us out a bit more.

You might want to consider looking into the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. This is a very well established neighborhood with a large number of Irish restaurants and pubs. There are also many Irish immigrants living here, both legal and illegal. Well, it ain't illegal unless you get caught I guess ;-). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodlawn%2C_Bronx)

There is also a neighborhood in Queens called Woodside, that is popular with Irish immigrants, but I am not too familiar with it.

I've heard that there are a lot of Irish FOBs living in Sunset Park in Brooklyn. The area looks mostly Hispanic to me (I've just been on 5th Avenue there though). Perhaps the Irish are hiding in another corner of the neighborhood?

Manhattan is "the place to be" but it's very expensive. If you're on a student's budget you might want to look into sharing a place or sub-leasing a room or a space in a multi-bedroom apartment for a couple of months. Check out craigslist.org and look for short-term stuff.

Irish FOBS in Sunset Park? That area is all Hispanic to the West and Chinese to the east. I doubt there are any Irish people there. Perhaps in Bay Ridge though?

The only two real Irish immigrant neighborhoods left in NYC are Woodlawn, Bronx and Woodside, Queens, (and I've heard that neighborhood isn't even as Irish as it used to be).
