When I dreamed of Manhattan I, like everyone else dreamed of nice big loft spaces for a reasonable price. Well I know that is not possible here, but i am willing to go as far as 20-30 min outside of Manhattan and I was wondering if it is reasonable to look for 700-900 sq ft apartment for under $1000. I don't want a neighborhood where I will get shot, or robbed. Just a nice big space. If you know any areas where I should look please tell me.

Thank you. i want to move as soon as possible.
The Bronx...20-30 minute train ride to Manhattan. studios and 1 bedrooms go for $850-$1,100 in the Bronx. Norwood is a pretty decent area.

Is moving out and finding another place with a roommate an option? I'm not totally convinced you can find a 700-900 sq.ft. apartment within a 30-minute train ride to Manhattan. That said, and like others have said, Inwood, Washington Heights, possibly Astoria. Either that or go the rent-controlled route, but that process takes some time.
