hi everyone.

we are going to nyc to visit Fordham in a few weeks and I was wondering if the area around a hotel is safe. I was looking into various ones around the bronx but with the open house being on a weekend and all, most hotels are booked or extremely expensive. The Marriot by La Guardia has a 21 person waiting list for just the one night we are staying!

So, I was looking at the Days Inn in Long Island City:address is

31-36 Queens Blvd
Long Island City, NY 11101 US

And I am wondering what the area around this hotel is. Would it be safe to walk around around there?

Also, if there's any hotels in the area that you would suggest, it is more than welcome.

Thanks!

It's a very busy area, semi-gritty, but safe. Even during the late evenings(around 9) because it's across the street from a community college. Also, the 7 train is right in front of the location so if you plan to stay there you'll have to bear the loud screech from the trains making a curved turn while you sleep.

Here are some reviews: Days Inn Long Island City (Long Island City, NY) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor

For Fordham, you might check into some of the hotels in Westchester County, since you can get there quite easily on the Bronx River Parkway. You might find more vacancies and it's only a few miles to places like Yonkers, New Rochelle, and even White Plains. White Plains is further, but you have an option of the train as well. Yonkers and New Rochelle will be faster than Queens to get to Fordham, but a little longer to go back to the airport, assuming JFK or LGA.

For visiting the rest of the city, you can always take the train to Grand Central Terminal from close-in Westchester as well.

are you visiting the Lincoln Center or Rose Hill campus of Fordham? the hotel you're looking into is in Long Island City, very very close to Manhattan but in a less-desirable area of Queens. if you're visiting Rose Hill, i highly suggest finding some hotel in the Bronx. for either campus, a hotel in the Bronx or Westchester (just above the Bronx) would be a better alternative. be aware, many parts of the Bronx are a bit sketchy. you can also look into some hotels on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, as that is where the Lincoln Center campus is located but even so, the Bronx is closer than Queens to Fordham. the area you chose to stay at is fine though and pretty safe, just not very aesthetically pleasing. good luck.
