I'd say more like 10 minutes on the train. But yeah, once you go up for the transfer and everything, I'd say it's around 30 minutes for the trip from start to finish.
I ride 220 blocks to work each way, on the Hudson greenway bike path. This commute is not with the cars and it has reduced my stress levels over taking the subway.
It just takes me 50 minutes without breaking a sweat as the route is downhill on the way to work. The route would be the same for you, except that you get a nice ride through the park first and an even shorter downtown trip
Only on the way back you'll get sweaty and you'll need a shower when you get home, also you can buy prescription deodorant too.
So your saying the citibike might be quicker? Which route could I take.from Penn? The citibike stations don't go higher than 86 but I can walk from there. Thanks.
So you'll save a minute on the +SBS+, and lose 15 minutes by taking the local to 86th instead of the express to 96th, and then walking all the way from 92nd Street to 99th Street (not to mention the fact that the bus loops to York Avenue and back, so there go your "speed" savings). Genius idea!

I wonder how much time the SBS saves for the M86. I don't recall seeing bus lanes on 86th St.
The SM86 is a very long meandering route and actually skips no stops. So even if it gets you to 92nd and First, it is a long ride.
M96 is your best crosstown bet.
