How long would it take me to walk from White Plains Rd and Nereid Avenue in Wakefield to the Bronx/ Yonkers border at Broadway and W 262 street using McLean Ave and then detouring via the streets that border Van Cortlandt Park (ie Parkway North, Caryl Avenue ie in back of the 7-11). This is something i always wanted to try in the event my car wasn't running, as an alternative to the 9 bus/D train/16 bus combo which isn't too bad but still a pain.

I knew someone who did this every AM when I first started my job but I don't know how long it took them and they no longer work with me so I can't ask them

Is this dangerous? Do-able? I believe it's 2.7 miles from the 4 corners at Bx River Rd/McLean Ave intersection to Broadway.

Maybe Mead knows?

you can draw your intended route here Google Map Pedometer: Use This GMaps Pedometer to Draw Your Walking, Running, or Biking Route and it will calculate the distance. I don't know about the safety of the area.

I think that should be a pretty safe walk. I would think it would take a while though. Think of all those hills you'll have to wakl up going along McLean in Yonkers. Be careful crossing some streets too. Specifically drivers usually aren't so pedestrian friendly crossing the Deegan and Bronx River road.

No clue as to how long it would take. At least an hour I would guess.

henna thanks for the link tho it didn't work on my office computer

Mead--yeah that Bx River Rd intersection seems to get worse by the minute, and many times I pass there the cops are always chasing someone down and arresting them.

I could always walk over that Lincoln Park ped bridge over I 87 where that guy John Royster killed someone 10 years ago!! But seriously, I might try this on a nice day just for the exercise

I would love to see some type of east west transit through VC park but it would never happen

I think you might be better off taking a W42 bus, I don't know much about yonkers, but if you're going straight north for 24 blocks, the W42 is the way to go.
