He's not in a co-op, just a rental building. I wouldn't do it, though. Just the thought of getting bed bugs is enough for me.

High transients increase the probability of bed bugs.

I hope he gets bed bugs, then evict him, make him fork over all the income he got from illegal rentals, pay for the lawyer fees and have the book thrown at him.

I'm just shocked people still do AirBNB especially how publicized in the media it was that 1 day rentals are not permitted and the surrender of all airbnb client names for probably prosecuting purposes.
Are you kidding? The more Airbnb is in the news, the more advertising it gets. I signed up for Airbnb just because of all the controversy.

There is no such thing as bad news as long as people are talking about you.

Good!

It is not legal to sublet short term. You have can on sublettor with approval from landlord but that is it, and no more. If you dont believe me, just go to civil court on Centre St in Chinatown. Walk into one of the courtrooms on the fifth or eigth floor and ask the court attorney in person.

Airbnb just screams ILLEGAL on so many levels. People really need to stop and if not, please get evicted.

You cannot stop them. Nor can you make the landlords evict. And there are cases in which the landlords are using Airbnb (illegal). Who says every thing a landlord does is legal?

If you don't like Airbnb move to a small town that has few visitors, and you'll be safe from Airbnb (not entirely, anyone can Airbnb anywhere but this lessens your exposure).

Again, not true.

Depends on your local zoning laws.

There's no place where Airbnb is expressly illegal.
