I am thinking of applying for a job at Peninsula Hospital, but I don't drive and would have to take a bus from 92th St. and Rockaway Beach Blvd., I know the #22 bus stops right in front of the hospital and I'm not concerned about getting there in the daytime. However, would it be safe to wait for a bus coming home at a little after 5 PM? Again, the bus stop would be right across the street from the hospital. I would be talking about a clerical job, not nursing, so my hours would be fairly regular: either 8 to 4 or 9 to 5.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you would be OK, especially during those hours. I would imagine that there would be other hospital workers who would be travelling around the same time & route. The unfortunate thing is that the bus route is notoriously late and you may be tempted to take a dollar van... consider this. Many of them do not have the proper insurance, safety equipment & license's. I know they fill the void for poor bus service but they do operate illegally if they pick up along a bus route.

Safety is such a subjective topic, Rockaway is a pretty safe area bt things can happen everywhere. There was shootout between police and an armed man on Beach 69 St early this morning, which is generally a pretty quiet street. So you never know!

peninsula's right across the street from edgemere. in the day time its ok but i would just watch my back after night, its not a safe area. just dont flash any valuables. the cops are usually on beach 54th and beach channel drive patrolling but you're in the middle of the projects. but you should be ok, just use your street smarts. a lot of people dont hang out on that corner anymore since they closed down the stores and NYPD put up those huge flood lights.
