one thing i havent seen mentioned yet, and is worth discussing, is the LIRR 'city ticket' program which runs on the weekends only.
the cost is $4 and i believe it covers anywhere btwn zone 3 - zone 1
so on the weekends for only a buck fifty more i can ride into penn in a third of the time and in relative comfort compared to the 7.

That's assuming you have a pay per ride metrocard. Also, those scum suckers won't let you use city ticket to/from flushing-willets point

city ticket is a pretty good deal for a lot of people...especially for double commuter....the bus transfer to subway crowd on weekends. Another deal is kids 5-11 yrs old pay only $1 on the LIRR. Seniors also get pretty awesome LIRR pricing imo

nyc subway can be such a headache on weekends especially with their trackwork repair nonsense.

BlakeJones, per ride metrocard has nothing to do with LIRR cityticket, you pay at the vending machine in the LIRR station, and willets point IS in zone 1 so as far as i know it is covered, only exemption is on game days i believe.

Yeah, it says the only restrictions are:
LIRR CityTicket is not valid for travel to or from Belmont Park station (which is only open during special events), or the Far Rockaway Station (because these trips travel through Nassau county).

MTA - CityTicket

It matters if you have pay per ride or unlimited, since if you have an unlimited ride metrocard you are wasting your money by paying for the LIRR on weekends and it would make more sense to get the city ticket if you had a pay per ride
