I'll be visiting the city Dec 14th and would like to listen to some live piano music. I like contemporary and minimalist piano, not so much jazz or rock like you'd typically find at piano bars. Something from Philip Glass would be nice. Any suggestions of where to look?

My house.

What are you looking for? Phillip Glass just performed at the Guggenheim. I don't know of any other peformances for him in the city on Dec. 14th. There's solo piano and chamber music with piano all over the city. Sat. I'm going to be listening to some Poulenc. Are you only interested in Manhattan performances?

That's correct. And I won't be arriving until mid-afternoon so something in early evening or later. Shame that I just missed that performance!

Look at the classical listings in the New Yorker, Time Out New York, NY Mag, see if anything catches your eye. "Minimalist piano music" is a pretty specific niche so I don't know if you'll find it during your visit, but I'm sure you'll find something you like.

The ultimate in minimalist piano is the playing of CHOPSTIX for an entire evening.

I wonder if a specialized piano forum like Piano World (I can't remember the name of its chatty offshoot) would have some NYC members that would have some ideas. You might also call the local music schools to see if they're having any recitals scheduled then.
