I live in Bay Ridge and I still think you could find an actual one bedroom for 1100. We were off the radar until a couple of years ago and since then I have seen rents going up. These days most of the deals like that are in buildings along busy streets and are noisy if you're in the front apartment, but you get use to it. You can find a nice studio for your price I'm sure!

Take a ride down here and pick up one of the local newspapers like the Spectator or the Bay Ridge courier, they have the best deals than almost anything you'll find on line.

Don't worry about the R train, it's not all that bad. You have plenty of transfer options once your above 69th street (Bay Ridge Avenue). Probably the worst thing about the R is that it only operates as a shuttle between 36th and 59th street late nights. Depending on where you work downtown you may be able to take the R directly to work, it's a very popular downtown train. On a side note, the R will not be running between Court St. Brooklyn and Whitehall St. in Manhattan beginning this August 1st. They're doing extensive repairs because of the damage Sandy caused. There are ways around that and it won't be forever, so I wouldn't let that inconvenience keep you away from finding something nice down here.

Correction for bold above: Shuttle between 36th and 95th. Sorry for the type error.
