Hello,

Back in 2011, I heard someone say that 23rd street between 8th and 9th Avenues is bad. I looked up the area on Google street view and it looks alright to me, but since appearances can be deceiving I thought I would ask here if the area is truly bad or not.

Which goes to prove why you should take what people say about a place being "bad" with a grain of salt (or ignore them altogether). People say alot of things...most times they are based on nothing at all.

8th Avenue was rather seedy in the old days. It's become better since much of the city has been cleaned up, but it still has a dirtiness to it and more a "hussler" vibe if you will when compared to other avenues.

He asking about 23rd street between 8th and 9th Ave. There is no hussler vibe on 8th ave and 23rd street unless you mean the GAP store, or BBQs or Starbucks.

I know what he's asking about... I'm speaking of 8th Avenue in GENERAL and what it was like in the old days... Parts of 8th Avenue are still gritty in comparison to other avenues (i.e. 6th, 5th and Madison Avenues).

Even the parts of 8th Avenue near Chelsea projects are going through big changes on the east side of 8th (away from the projects). Below 23rd Street, on both sides 8th Avenue is mainly restaurants, bank branches, drug stores, etc. I'm there all the time, and its no different these days from 7th or 6th Avenue.
