I want to live in Manhattan or Brooklyn. In Manhattan, I love the East Village, West Village and and Greenwich Village haha *just noticed that* those are the neighborhoods I would love to live in Manhattan, I'm leaning more towards the East Village since its cheaper than the other two. In Brooklyn, I like Williamsburg or Greenpoint, however I'm leaning more towards Williamsburg. So it seems like its between Williamsburg and East Village. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I lived in both the East Village and Williamsburg for long periods of time.In fact I left the E Village to move to Williamsburg.Williamsburg however became such a nightmare to live in that I had to leave. It's now more of a hipster theme park than a real neighborhood.Lots of quality of life issues. If I had to live in either of those 2 neighborhoods now it would definitely be the E Village. I'd slit my wrist before moving back to Williamsburg the way it has become.Friends that I left behind in Williamsburg are all coming to the same conclusion and leaving in a steady stream.

Do you already know you can afford those pricey areas?
Given the COL here, often choice of neighborhood is dictated by budget first.

Yeah, definitely. You are listing really expensive areas that are rarely accessible to new graduates with entry-level salaries. East Village might be cheaper than Greenwich Village or the West Village, but it's by no means affordable and it's getting a lot more expensive quickly. Ballpark figures for the cheaper areas you listed..to live alone your salary will need to be at the very least 80,000. To live with roommates, probably something like 60,000.
