It's so-so, but make sure you don't hang around early afternoon on school days when the BCHS students roam the area.

It's been more than a decade, maybe 2, since I was out there but I never had any problems or worry. I was struck by the run-down nature of the place.

Yes I noticed that the high school was pretty close by, I can't set my schedule around school kids but I know its not a good school and some of the kids could be troublemakers around the area so that has me second guessing rockaway.

Overall it's safe.

It's generally fine. Maybe some of the MS and HS kids get kind of rambunctious when they are waiting for the bus on Rockaway Beach Blvd. but it can be avoided. It's not so run down these days. Are you on the beach or bay side?

Well my cousin lives around Beach, and she says not to go out there when the high school kids are around.
Also at night for some reason.......

Its not really an ideal destination...there can be some pretty shanty Irish kids who have the tendency to start trouble and seem to not take kind to outsiders. It really is a world to itself though, they even have their own accents and stuff, but not to put down Rockaway because it is a cool place but some parts are the worst in New York City
