Generally speaking, is car insurance cheaper in flushing (queens) or manhasset(long island)?

Long Island. Queens is one of the most expensive areas to insure a car. When I moved to Long Island 20 years ago my insurance dropped in half.

Friend of mine lives in Fresh Meadows. He pays $2600/year for a relatively new Ford Suv. I pay $850 for a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee. I cant imagine what my insurance would be in NYC...probably close to $3000 a year.

Another great reason to leave that dump.

And if you are asking because you might insure your car with a relative in Long Island while living in Queens...that's called "rate jumping". Do the insurance companies really care?...NO..do it. My friend in Fresh Meadows finally did it..dropped his insurance down to about $1,000/year.

Now if you do get into a serious accident and they really find out you dont live in Long Island, they will drop you in a blink of an eye..but they are obligated to pay the claim.

I agree from past experience car insurance in Queens was much more expensive than in Long Island.

I'm going through this issue myself! My house is on the Queens side of the Queens / LI border...I have a hospitality business in Long Island...I spend 95% of my time (sleep as well) in LI and my insurance company recently switched my rates over to Queens rates!! My rates increased $900 per a year..

If you think Queens is bad, you don't want to hear about Brooklyn rates.

Its possible they can sue you for fraud esp in a potentially multi million dollar lawsuit if something horrible happens.
