I am looking to move to nyc in the next month with 4 others, all of us in the field of communications. We are not very familiar with nyc and would love to know what the best areas on the more inexpensive side (us being straight out of college and with limited budgets) are. Currently we've looked mainly in Brooklyn and Manhattan and are not sure of what places are best / safest and fit our budget.

Our budget is around $2500 - $3300 for the 4 of us, and would like somewhere that is preferably close to the subway and somewhere with a decent amount to do for people our age. Early - Mid 20's.

Thanks!

2bed? 3? 4?

If I was a college student, I would want to live around the St Marks and West 4th Street areas in Manhattan

I would suggest you also consider Astoria in Queens.

Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Greenpoint

Can you get a 2-bed for $3300 in Astoria?

Careful with Bed-Stuy as it's still a high crime area. I would consider Bushwick before Bed-Stuy. Also, a large 2BR (or small 3br) can be had for $3300 in Astoria. You may also want to look at Hoboken NJ, as it's a perfect town for 20 somethings, lots to do, safe and easy access to many points in Manhattan.

Williamsburg is pricey, but you might still find a 2br for 3,300.

Greenpoint and Astoria would be way easier.
