Tell me that I can find huge portions of the most fattening smothered turkey, macaroni and cheese, barbecued pigs feet, and pecan pie, like we've got down south, and I'll move to New York tomorrow.

The best places for reallllly good soul food (you call it soul food, I just call it good food) is the neighborhood baptist churches that don't do a lot of advertising but DO cook up good lunches on Wednesdays or Fridays (you need to research and find them) with the classics (mac and cheese, greens, cornbread, smothered chicken/pork chops, fried chicken, etc. and so forth) cooked and served by the "church ladies". It's been many years for me since I've had one of these glorious meals, but I'm sure they're still available. I lived and worked in the Columbia University area and a co-worker of mine used to do a "lunch run" to a church on 121st or thereabouts...check it out.

Soul fixings was decent. It's more like a take out spot though. The collard greens were delicious!

Well, that's sad; last time I was there was late autumn. I'll have to try Spoonbread.
