Just wondering but new york religion wise strikes me more as a catholic and jewish city would it be accurate to say protestantism would be comparatively a minority religion in the city or is that off base?

Large number of AA who are primarily protestants as well as wasps and Anglo Caribbeans who reside in the city. I do agree faith wise for sometime nyc has beeen primarily Jewish and Roman Catholic. I was raised RC but not profess athiesm. Freedom at last.

I'm not the OP but thank you for the link. Sure proves the OP's point that Catholics and Jews tend to dominate in the city.

I think most New Yorkers only attend services when they're "hatched, matched, and dispatched", in the words of a priest I once knew.

Most alleged "WASPs" I've encountered in NYC are actually WASAAs.

White anglo-saxon agnostics or atheists.

When I was a child growing in the Bronx, I thought there were only two religions Catholic and Jewish.

I'm Episcopalian (live in NJ) and I've noticed that the city's Episcopal churches seem to have larger congregations and be more active than out here, where they are small. It's likely because we accept (and ordain, lol) everyone, including gay people and women, and are anti-racist and outspoken about other social-justice issues. Those features are more of a draw in the city than they are in the burbs, and it shows up in the churches.
