Anyone out there that can give an idea of where the good areas within Astoria are to look for rentals..keeping in mind a budget of $1300-$1600 for at least a 1/1?

Thanks!

yep.
basically anywhere east of 21 st.

but since you previously said you'll be working out of JFK why do you wanna be so far from your work place??

Try Kew Gardens or Forest hills, they're much closer and still not that far from Manhattan.

Easy enough I guess..thanks.

And I dunno, didn't think of it as being that far away from JFK..still don't have a grasp of the distances and all. Remember everything here is pretty much a 15-20 min drive away. :-/ But was thinking it was much closer to the city. Not that big of a difference I guess though..?

I would go for Kew Gardens/Forest Hills. You can easily get a nice 1/1 in either place within your budget and the LIRR stops in both places--15 minutes into the city, 25 minutes if you take the E/F subway. And the commute to JFK is a breeze. Forest Hills has more going on than Kew Gardens but both places are nice and very convenient. Good luck!
