Where the heck do you get these poverty rates from.

The 46th precinct has the 4th highest murder rate in the city last year, at about 16 per 100,000. It includes Morris Heights, Tremont, University Heights, and south Fordham. Those hoods are definitely worse than Port Richmond and Flatbush, and probably worse than Crown Heights, and maybe about even with Bushwick. Soundview suffers from the same issue that Jamaica does, in that only part of the neighborhood is rough. So unless you specify western/southern Soundview, it doesn't belong on the list.

As for University Heights, I don't think it's in the top 10 like Sobroguy believes, but it should definitely by top 15. Here are some articles/videos from last year, along with a poverty rate near 40%.

Could go on but you get the point. Don't sleep on the 46th or 44th precinct neighborhoods. There are spots that are among the worst in the city. The hood is the hood.

I would put Hunts Point in the top 10, while it's murder rate is not high, it's total violent crime rate is second to Brownsville.

38.6% poverty rate (of course, it all depends on the boundaries you use), but even if you expanded the boundaries a little, it wouldn't make much of a difference and it would still be around 40%.

Hummmmn...Been over there without fear, but I'll allow it is different from west of B'way. Maybe not alone at night though. Doesn't seem worse than Amsterdam in the 70s-80s (years AND cross streets).

i thought the question was supposed to be "what are the 10 most dangerous neighborhoods in nyc?" instead of "where do all the black people live?"

here's the real list based on major crimes per capita (violent, rape, robbery, grand larceny, felony assault, burglary, murder, and auto theft.)

10. Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill & Dumbo
9. Chelsea & Hell's Kitchen
8. Bedford-Stuyvesant
7. Downtown
6. Fort Greene & Clinton Hill
5. Flatiron
4. Brownsville
3. Hunts Point
2. Greenwich Village & Meatpacking District
1. Midtown

well, you're more likely to be robbed there than, say, flatbush..

i mean, think about it just a little.. if you're a thief, would you rather rob rich people/tourists or poor people?
and it's not as if rich nycers live in gated communities etc.
