I recently discovered that my grandmother and her parents lived in Bronx Park Avenue around 1930. I am going to visit NYC in May and I would love to see the house and area were they used to live BUT is this area safe for an obvious tourist to visit?

Being norwegian I have a feeling that I will stand out from the local crowd

It's not the worst neighborhood. You should be fine during the day.

You might want to also go to The Bronx Zoo as it is right near there.

Are you sure it's Bronx Park Avenue though ? There is also a Bronx Park East which is a different and much longer street.

Thanx! I really want to go but because the Bronx in general has a rather shady reputation I was a bit worried if it might be in the "wrong" area. I guess I'll try my luck. As long as I am able to take a picture without being robbed I guess I'll be fine

The address is correct, 366 Bronx Park Avenue, as I have found it several places and the house is definitely the same as in the old photo albums (I've streetviewed it on Google... It's unfortunatly extremely run down now) In the photos the houses on the street are beautiful with lots of wooden carvings on the front porches and nice little gardens in front. Now they look like ****... But I'm just happy they still exist

that is on the border between W Farms and Van Nest(zip code is 10460). Good idea to go with someone as it's an isolated area( as seen from the #2 train) and it's an area that's near the el and if i'm not mistaken has had or still has an issue with prostitutes roaming around. the East Bronx had a lot of gentiles back in those times so it's not surprising your relatives grew up there. i remember reading an article in the Times about the corner of Devoe and Wyatt Street being bad (but that was a long time ago) and that people didn't go out at night

just be careful
