I'd like to be able to walk to work and feel safe walking back late if I have to but also be within a 15 minute walk to the train, since I know Einstein is more accessible by bus than train.
There are lots of apartment buildings with signs on them around Pelham Parkway and Williamsbridge Road and along and off of Williamsbridge Road between Pelham Parkway and Morris park Ave and a few real estate offices on Williamsbridge Road just to the South of Pelham Parkway. If you concentrate your search around there you will be less than a 10 minute walk to Einstein and less than a 10 minute walk to a subway stop. It's a nice neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants, etc.

You can then choose to take the shuttle (1 stop) to times square or walk. It is much much faster than the 2 train straight down...you will literally slit your wrists from the long commute and the very crowded train.

Live close to the 5 train!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(PS it also goes express coming back north, while the 2 is local).
It's not that bad. When I lived up there I would ride the #2 down from Pelham Parkway to 34th st for work. On a good day, it would take maybe 40 minutes on a bad day, maybe 50. I'd say like 95% of the time I would get a seat too (less crowded that far uptown). Taking the 5 express to midtown only shaved off about 10-12 minutes.

shaving off 10 minutes is a 25% reduction in commute time each way = 20 minutes a day. You will get a seat on the 5 also. I would stick with the 5 train at Pelham parkway or Morris park.

I'm doing the standard (Craigslist, PadMapper, etc.) but I was just wondering if this is an area where realtors are a better way to go? Thanks!
Are you coming to the med school or the hospital? If the med school, have you looked into student housing? It's cheaper if you're looking to have a roomie than renting in MP. (I work for the college)

ETA: Just reread and saw you have a boyfriend. No unmarried couples in student housing... boo

Oh come on, 10 minutes in the grand scheme of things is not that big a deal. I did that commute for 7 years! Trust me when I say that 10 minutes is not that big a deal! Also, during rush hour, the 5 train runs on that #2/Nereid Ave line anyway so you can catch the #5 train from there too.

Also, the major draw back of the 5 train in the BX is that it doesn't run past 10PM. So you have to take the shuttle train at 180th if you are coming from or to anywhere at that hour. Seems like no big deal but it really sucks if the timing is off and you have to wait at 180th st station in the freezing cold!

Don't bother with logic, jad.Sometimes people argue just because.Don't forget that he jumped into this thread to advise that someone looking to live in Pelham Parkway with a commute to Times SQ get a place closer to the 5 stop at Williamsbridge Rd than to the 2 and 5 stop at White Plains Road on the premise that the fastest commute to Times Sq would be to take the 5 to Grand Central and then take the shuttle from Grand Central to Times Sq.. He even went so far as to claim that the time difference when taking the 2 would be enough for someone to "slit their wrist"

I still maintain that the fastest way would be to just take the 2 to Times Sq with no changes but as you point out, even if you think the 5 train plus shuttle to Times Sq would be faster it doesn't matter because both the 2 and the 5 Express stop at the White Plains Road stop.

The running time on the 5 Express from 180th St to Grand Central is 28 minutes
and the running time on the 2 from 180th st directly to Times Sqi is 36 minutes.......both during the AM rush hour so I don't see how it would be possible to get from PP to Times Sq "faster" by his changing trains method ,not to mention the annoyance of changing trains at Grand Central during rush hour.

They actually do allow unmarried students in housing with a domestic partnership and if you've lived together for longer than 6 months, but we really didn't want to live in a studio! And he still has to commute to the city for work so we wanted to find somewhere where he could walk to the train as well.

I grew up in Inwood then moved to yonkers with my mom 5 yrs ago and I just landed a nice job near times sq so i'm looking to get into a nice neighborhood in the bronx.

I'm looking at morris park and pelham parkway (moreso pelham) but I'm not too sure about which areas to live around. I'd like to be close to the subway (obv) so if anyone whose from those areas can steer me into a particular area to look around that would be great!

sorry for the long post
I dont recommend Morris park, got mugged there 2 times.
As for pelham, I go to school there... stick near the albanian areas those are decent places to live.

Guess they finally lost or settled on that lawsuit.
