Why do you ask? I'd assume most were southern, from Africa.

Most of the Black people that I know are of at least partial Caribbean origin, including myself.

No. Many came in the waves of migration from the south, to here and also to St. Louis, for example. Looking for work, food, education; freedom from lynchings.
They were often solicited by people looking for a labor force - the existing had been decimated by strikes.

Look at the 2010 Census results. My guess is no, but it is definitely going on that direction.

Yeah, that's true since a lot of Black people are moving down south. It's almost completely African American Black people that are moving down south since they are likely to have family roots down there. Usually family is a large factor when relocating.

That's not the reason why so many of us African Americans are moving south.. The reason is cheaper cost of living! Taxes up here in the north especially in the tri-state are ridiculous. It's ok to assume, but that's the real reason!

I never thought of NYC as a good city for AAs. Unfortunately the largest concentrations are in deep poverty (or close to) in those neighborhoods. Lack of strong black communities in the inner city (west queens, south bronx, north bk, the popularized neighborhoods).

Compare that to Washington D.C., a city with a strong population of highly educated Blacks in stronghold neighborhoods.

I read in the Times not too long ago 80% of the shootings in NYC were commited by Blacks, population is less then a quarter. I understand the exodus to the southern cities like Atlanta.

I know Cost of Living is the reason!

I'm just saying that an AA is more likely to move down south for that reason than a Black Caribbean since they are far more likely to have family to fall back on there.
