Is this an alright neighborhood, just a few blocks from the 21st queensbridge subway station? Safety? Nightlife?

I wouldn't recommend being near the Queensbridge Houses (NYCHA) at night.... You're not far from them if you're near the 21st street station.

Queensbridge Houses are directly outside of the train station and even though they aren't what they used to be, the same bad element definitely exists. You'll probably be safe for the most part but on a warm summer friday night, something could definitely happen. (Especially considering how massive the projects are)

You should maybe look into getting off at Queensboro Plaza instead? If that sort of thing bothers you.

Agree with the other sentiments. If you can find something by the Queensboro Plaza station, you should be okay. However if it's by the projects, I wouldn't recommend it.

You might be better off checking into Astoria and Sunnyside.
