Do you wish the MTA/Metro-North RR would extend farther up? Following the old NYC route all the way to Chatham? Would a lot of people use this line? For work? For shopping? For visiting family? Would you want the line to be electrified? Or would you not want that much activity in your rural town? Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?
Amtrak still reaches the area, so I don't see what Metro-North specifically would do for it. Also, Metro-North reaches Poughkeepsie, which isn't all the way up Dutchess County but is pretty far up there.
MNRR service will never reach Columbia county at least not for a while , however theres a strong possibility of it reaching Ulster county and more service in Putnam and Dutchess counties. The Harlem line used to run up to Chatham,NY , the tracks have been ripped out and converted to a trail...
I recently took the train to Poughkeepsie (and then a cruise up the Hudson.) I just cannot IMAGINE anyone taking it any farther on a daily basis or even for occasional shopping. The ride is long and tedious (but the river is pretty.)
Perhaps an Anniversary trip with tickets to $$$THE BOOK OF MORMON$$$ but little else.
But then I don't live in the boonies so I didn't vote.
