me - the rockaways
bluedog - pelham pkwy
sobro, bronxGT - south bronx
supermario - bronx (west side)

You will want to shoot for rent that is 1100 or less otherwise half your salary goes to rent. Hopefully that will give you a guideline regardless of area.

Hi,
Been here since late Sept. Prices on food, housewares better than any where in Manhattan. Diverse enough neighborhood you won't stand out. Unless you go out of your way.

Zero night life (that's a plus for me). Well priced diverse (Burek!) take out (also a plus) Safe depending on where you live, 2 or 5 train to 42nd street (50 mins give or take)

Library, fire dept, hospital , post office; all close.

get a good agent , don't outspend yourself and you can find a great apt.

Bluedog actually hipped me to this neighborhood. Take a train up or over one day, if u can.

You should have no problem with either the costs of living or with your sexual identity in Pelham Parkway.
It's one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the whole city in every respect .Literally everyone lives here and it is remarkably peaceful for the most part. You should be able to find a decent studio for 900 or 950 or a decent 1 br for around 1,100 .These would be in a well maintained elevator building with a laundry on premises and a live in super.Either would be affordable on a 45,000 income .

As Vic said, there is not really much nightlife although there are lots of bars and restaurants around. It's not exactly what you would call a hipster neighborhood ,though there are a few around. It is one of the greenest neighborhoods in the city with lots of trees and parks ,including the Botanical Garden and Zoo.

Ehhh, not so good - very limited in my area. The Indian take out is restaurant quality, in a cafeteria setting. The Lydig Diner is the best diner so far, but its still a Diner.

You gotta do some searching - most of the restaurants are tiny, & I have yet to find a "sit down" restaurant, save The Colonial - which is Spanish food, not for me.

DM if you have any ??'s - Im new, but Ive been hitting the streets and really getting to know the area.

*** I dont drive, so I am very limited to the places I can go on foot, with a stroller.
