Yes very true, and always was true. Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton's Heights name sake was from the Carribean island of Nevis. Rumor has it that his portraits have been "whitenized", and that the duel with Aaron Burr that resulted in Hamilton's death was really about a statement that Burr made concerning Hamilton's race.
At the present time, there are several Carribean restaurants in Hamilton Heights, and many people from the English and French speaking islands of the Carribean, as well as the more well known Spanish speaking islands.
