I'm thinking about signing a lease to move to the UES but have a few questions. It's on 73rd and 2nd. Is this a decent, fun area? I'm in my early 20s so I'm a little worried that there wont be a lot of people my age in the area. Are the bars crowded on weekends with young people? Are there good bars near 73rd and 2nd? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Traditionally many of the the bars along 2nd Ave on the UES have catered to a young post-collegiate crowd. I presume that a lot of those places in the 70s, 80s and 90s are still there. But I don't know how much this may have changed with the subway construction now going on.

is it really that big of a deal to get on a subway and travel to bars where younger people would hang out on the weekend?

Second Avenue has put a damper on life. Many of the retailers are suffering and it is definitely not the same avenue as before construction.

But as for the rest of the neighborhood, it is a terrific place for a single twenty-something to settle in.

There are bars all over the place...and most, in fact all but one, are straight.

If you want a frolicsome gay life, this might not be the best neighborhood.

I live near there. Most of the bars where 20-something idiots hang out are in the upper 70s and 80s. If that's your most important criteria for signing a lease, I recommend you look elsewhere.
