Motel at Broadway and 256th in Riverdale. Nice area (I live down the street) safe place (I used the place once it was but not as nice as Pelham Gardens)
to the end 242 street. walk up Broadway (it's like 14 long blocks) to the hotel which is on your left or you can take the #9 bus when you get off the # 1 train via free Metrocard transfer. get off the bus at W 254th street and walk the 2 blocks to the hotel
I think i paid $49(maybe it was less i don't really recall) for 3 or 4 hours on a Friday afternoon but on weekends it might be less
another alternative is the Deegan Motel at 3600 Bailey Ave. in Kingsbridge I've never been there but take the # 1 train to 238th street, walk one long block east to Bailey Avenue and a block south. hotel is on your left. Rates might be less for the short stay than above
Sherman Hotel on 8th Avenue and W 47th street before it became the Econolodge...!!!...but i don't know of any in Manhattan. although come to think of it i think there is one in Chelsea like around 9th or 10th Avenue in the 20's but I can't remember the name
there are a few short stay places in the area of Boston Rd and Baychester Avenue in The Bronx but I don't know anything about them
Hourly motel and safe neighborhood does not exist. That area is ok just don't hang around Bryant Ave, Southern Blvd, or E Tremont Ave for longer than necessary because that's where most of the knuckleheads hang out at. Pelham Gardens in by Co-op City so it's a lot safer, but again just don't hang around the back blocks.
The former Alps Hotel....a truly scary place. It is now the Howard Johnson and decent enough, alot of people visiting Botanical Gardens and Bronx Zoo stay there, like interns, grad students, professors, scientists, researchers, international representatives, and families from all over. If they can survive, I think you will be alright.
