I aspire to be a young, successfull professional in the next 5 years and would love to live in a city like New York. I also like Chicago.

If I said that i'd love to have roomates and share a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment in Manhattan with a budget of 4000 to 6000 dollars between all roomates. I also love running and exercising so an are with a little park would be nice. I also like the nice cafes and bars and I find it easy to talk to people I'd also like a place were it is easy to meet girls

What is the best area for that?

East Village, SoHo, Williamsburg, and Clinton are good picks.

Check back again when you're not "aspiring" to be a wealthy young professional and actually ARE one. Today's trendy neigborhoods probably won't be tomorrow's with the exception of downtown Manhattan.

Right now you should be focusing on education, connections, and job/internship experience so you'll land that $80k job in NYC and can afford your $2k share of monthly rent. Oh yeah, and be sure to make successful friends who will also land those $80k+ jobs so they can pay their share.

I'd love to live in a co-op on Gramercy Park.

I love wish threads!

Murray Hill. East/West Village and SoHo have too many weirdos.

What industry do you work in? I ask not with segregation in mind, but rather networking opportunities for you. A good choice might "open doors" by being around (and meeting) folks employed in the same field.
