OKC is a conservative city, a big one, and a very clean and safe one. Dallas, Atlanta, and Houston are anything but suburban sprawl, but those cities aren't exactly conservative either.

What is wrong with suburbs anyway?? They are safe, clean and great places to raise kids.
Wow, NYC being a liberal city has nothing to do with how dirty it is, especially since free market conservatives have been running it since '94. OKC more than likely has a higher crime rate and I'm sure has its share of illegals. Tampa and Jacksonville down in Florida are extremely suburban and conservative but have had some of the highest crime rates in the country, way higher than NYC's or San Fran for that matter. Miami in the 80's was a Republican stronghold, it had illegals which the Republicans encouraged (wet-foot, dry-foot policy) and murder was rampant. And no, not all suburbs are a great place to raise kids.

Let me tell you something, I rather live in a city where I can walk daytime/nightime on "dirty" streets without thinking about getting robbed at gunpoint.

Or I rather live in the "dirty" city where I don't have to fear as much as in OKC that my house/apartment will be broken into.

Do you still prefer OKC over NYC? Do you still think OKC is a safe city?
You'll have to wait until mommy picks him up from school and he can get back on his starter PC to continue trolling.

Funny that you blame "liberals" for New York's appearance (I take it you're a fan of conservative market driven economics) but praise London for its clean appearance. Let me tell you something. England has been governed by liberals for over a decade until recently. And as Republicans and Fox News have been telling us for years now, Europe in general is a socialist hellhole with free healthcare that makes people die faster and big governments that give people something back for the taxes they're paying i.e. clean streets and working infrastructure (god forbid).

Given that, I would attribute the differences not to the political orientation of the ruling class but to the fact that American government is not supposed to intervene in any shape or form in anything, according to conservative ideology. But then you come here and complain that the streets are dirty, ignoring the fact that it's one of the more mundane manifestations of your ideology. Suck it up.

LOL, I don't even think NYC is that dirty or hasn't been since before mid 90's.

I'm still back at the part where the OP "toured" NYC via Google Maps...

Exactly what I was thinking. NYC has thousands and thousands of streets, no way is anyone going to waste days looking at all of them. Not to mention, anyone who thinks that NYC buildings are all ugly and uncared for, simply has not seen that much of the city.

Having said that, the New York area does neglect cleaning up its parks and roadways during the winter. You will notice a definite difference on the Parkways now that the weather is warmer. Perhaps, some tourists to the city come during the late winter and early spring. They then spread this stereotype that NYC is so mysteriosly filthy while apparently other cities are so clean you can eat right off the streets.

i don't know why but i saw a tv show where a woman had tons of caged birds as pets. too many than she could handle. the bird waste would dry and turn into 'waste dust' and would get into the air in her house. so only in the past few minutes did i think: hey nyc does have a lot of bird (pigeons), so that might be a factor. notice i said "a" factor, not "the" factor.

I rounded my block on google maps and it took roughly 2 minutes without glancing around (the area looked clean btw). Google tells me that this distance is 0.3 miles.

Manhattan has roughly 350 miles of roadway. Therefore, to constantly cycle through each and every bit without glancing around looking for dirtiness would need approximately 39 hours JUST FOR MANHATTAN.

Did the OP take all that time + the amount required to see ALL the boroughs? Yeah, I think we know the answer to that one.

Regarding the overall "gritty" look ... that is definitely a Northeast thing. Cities in the Northeast are older and denser. In my opinion, it gives a place character.

NY doesn't take care of their old buildings it seems, they let them go to ruin and still live and work in them. London remodels and preserves their old buildings, some of their buildings are over 500 years old, some has been around since the Roman Empire, while they are in ruins, they are still kept neat and used in a historical context. NYC lets their buildings fall down on them it seems and then they still continue to occupy them.

Actually England has gone back and forth from conservative to liberal rule . London's current mayor is a conservative and the city's council has a conservative majority. England's Prime Minister is also from the Conservative party and the CP also has a majority in the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

Also:

You liberals are the biggest complainers about litter and the environment, so this is YOUR hypocrisy.
