Can any recommend the safest way to sell furniture? Craig list scares me a little.

I plan to sell my living room set, a sofa bed, dining set, and bedroom furniture.

Thanks.

Craigslist is the way to go. Why are you scared? Sure things happen but those are very rare. Just about everybody that I have moved over the years buys and
or sells their furnitures, etc off Craigslist.

From a sellers point of view the main problem would be people flaking out when they were supposed to show up.
Do not accept checks of course. This isn't as complicated
as you might think, good luck.

Agreed. Craigslist or bust, pretty much.

Just be leary of the email you get asking if your "item" is still available for sale? These are scammers that will offer to send you a money order for the fuill amount (maybe more) and have their curriers come pick it up. The money order will be fake and your bank will charge you for the amount after your furniture is gone.

It shouldn't scare you. One thing I recommend - the opposite of what most people do - is to post your telephone number, not your email. That way you can hear what the person sounds like on the phone and you'll avoid the Nigerian scammers who offer to send you a cashier's check for over the amount.

If you live in a neighborhood that has a local online forum with local free classifieds, post there. I know of forums and blogs in many NYC neighborhoods, some with very high participation rates. I think there is a selection you can make on google to choose "discussion groups" so try typing your neighborhood name and then doing that selection. See what comes up.
