We are choosing between two vacation rentals for our upcoming vacation to NYC, and have no idea which one is in a better neighborhood. Here they are:
1. Orchard Street between Delancy and Rivington. 3 flights up, big private terrace.
2. W. 16th Street between 7th and 8th. 4 flights up. Drawback - no TV.
Things we find important:
-Subway stops very close by
-plenty of "life" such as shops, restaurants, etc
-SAFE neighborhood
We need advice! Please tell me which one would be better for our stay. I'm worried that the Orchard street location is in a dicey area. We would go for W. 16th street in a heartbeat, but is the location worth sacrificing the nice terrace and TV?
Wait, so, you're coming to NYC on vacation and are concerned about having a TV? Really?! I live here full-time and don't even own one.
Anyway, I would go for the W. 16th street location. Both are plenty safe and have a lot to do, but W. 16th has much better subway options and is much closer to the West Village, which is chock full of anything/everything you could want. Also, you're just a few blocks away from the High Line and Chelsea Market.
I second that. Definitely the West 16th Street location. You have access to many more subway lines. Transportation done on Orchard st. is much more limited. Also, 16th St. is a much pretty area. Orchard St. can be very noisy at night because of the bars on that block.
