What is the best way to commute from Westchester to Columbia U Medical Center? I live in Larchmont (recently moved from Oz, so not quite familiar with the city yet) and will be taking the Metro-North train.

I need to be there before 2pm on Monday for a job interview. Google Maps is telling me to get of at Harlem-125th station, then take the bus (BX15), and transfer to Subway (A). I'm just wondering if it's fairly easy and safe, to just walk the 6 blocks from Harlem Stn to the Subway?

Is the google directions reliable? Otherwise, is there an easier/faster way to get there? Thanks!

i would take the metro north to fordham, get off take the bx12 bus over the bridge to the 1 train, then get off at 168th. it should be faster and cheaper to do it that way. If u really wanna get off at 125th and walk u will be safe but its about a 10-15 min walk.

The google maps directions are the fastest way to get there. It is cheaper getting of the metro north at Fordham station but the trip to the hospital is longer.

what makes u feel the trip to the hospital is longer going that way? think about getting off at 125th when the hospital is at 168th....basically ur going 43 blocks under 168th then riding 43 blocks back which means over 4 miles out of the way...the ride on the a from 125th to 168th is the same amount of time as taking the 1 from 207 to 168th which is about a 7 minute ride. so the ride across fordham to the 1 train doesnt take much longer than the ride across 125th and on top of that you would be shaving 7 mins off the metro north commute by getting off at fordham and also saving about 4 dollars at the same time. I dont believe the 125th way will get u there quicker.

I think it is faster because I go that way a lot. I travel to the bronx on the BX 12 and ride the #1 line.

Here is why I think it is faster. Going across 125th on the BX15 is a quick ride 5-10 minutes tops, the OP can also walk it in about 10 minutes.

Once you get to St Nicholas and 125th the train ride is another 5 min. You can take the local C or the A and get to 168th in 5 minutes, 2 stops on the A, 5 short stops on the C.

The number 1 is fast but I think the ride over on the BX12 is longer. That ride alone is at minimum 20 minutes, but more like a half hour, can be longer if traffic is bad.

I shouldn't presume, but usually a person coming from Larchmont doesn't need to save $10 round trip. Honestly I would be tempted to save a few dollars, but for the sake of time, I'd pay the money.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I did a practice ride yesterday. I took the google maps directions. It was pretty straight forward.

I think on the day of my interview, I'll just walk from the 125th station to St Nicholas & 125th, just because it seemed faster that way as traffic was really bad.

Thanks again to you both for your help!
