Hello all,

Ive been lurking on this form for some time and im just curious. I'm 28 years old, no kids and not married and have been applying on the affordable housing connect website for the past year or so. I guess I would be considered "middle" income because I don't have any children.

Just curious if anyone who is single, has gotten call backs/interviews and moved in to any of the nyc affordable housing buildings?
Thanks!

My thing with these lotteries that I've learned since beening on this forum in order to have a high chance of winning is:

Apply to a building within your community board
Be within the income guidelines
Have a semi low log number under 20,000 with CB preferences etc
Apply to a building that has over 100+ apartments available and enough apartments available for your income range/unit size .

Good luck

If you read the posts here, you will see that many single people have gotten lottery apartments.

I recommend redoing your application before applying for any apartment. Make sure you put down an income for yourself that is within the range. That's not cheating because if you're called, you will have to prove it.

Lovemylayla's tips are great!

I did! Single, no kids, middle income & won a lottery for HPS. Prob the best odds out of most lotteries bc there were like 950 apartments, 80% of which were middle income. Def not impossible, but takes some time! I still apply to every lottery I qualify for as I'd love to get a 1br. Don't want to live in a studio forever!

Thanks for your advice Lovemylayla' an macnyc2003! @ KellyDNYC thats awesome! did you apply to the ones where you made within the income bracket? I've applied to many, and some of which I know I don't qualify for but decided to just apply anyway. But thanks for sharing! There is hope!

I only apply to the ones I qualify for. With my luck, I'd get picked for an awesome one I don't qualify for, then would be sad when I got rejected!

I have applied to these lotteries for 2 plus years, its all about luck, and whiling to wait it out. Looking for construction sites in your community board as individuals had mentioned will certainly increase your odds by 50%. In my situation, I have yet to have CB preference, but it was until this month that I received an email due to my low 8x log number for a place in Hunter point, I live in Bronx. Dont lose hope, but also dont hold your breath, because this is a lottery that takes a long time. But when you move in, I am sure it feels like you really did win the lottery...

Yes, for most of these lotteries, residents of New York City get priority for the initial lease-up.

That's an odd way of looking at "cheating".
